03 Jun Stay Interviews Save Time!
A cynic would say, “What do you do with your time if you don’t have time for your team? Isn’t all work done through your team?” Oh wait. That wasn’t a cynic, that was me talking. But anyhow,
Stay Interviews cannot be included as part of performance reviews because the mood is wrong.
Employees come to performance reviews to learn:
(1) am I going to hear something that bothers me? and
(2) am I going to get a fair raise?
We usually instruct supervisors to ask some developmental questions at the end but these are far from the main event. And there is usually no real energy left after the primary topics and their emotional undertones have been discussed.
So what do you think? Can you ever imagine Stay Interviews being intertwined with performance reviews? And if not, what’s the best way to push back on that idea?
